Dolly-Parton

Born on Jan. 19th of 1946, in Locust Ridge Tenn into a poor family that would eventually include 12 children Dolly Parton learned early to overcome the challenges of her life through her vivid and far-ranging imagination. Before she learned to read and write she had already composed the songs she wrote herself. She got her first guitar when she was 8 and started singing at a Knoxville Tenn radio station at age 11. The same year, she recorded her first album with Gold Band Records an independent small-scale label. In high school she made herself known to the community, but her ambition was bigger. The year 1964 was the day after her high school graduation her family moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde was her first record to chart on Monument Records. Around this time, Porter Wagoner was looking for an actress to sing for the show he had syndicated to television. Parton was signed to RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She accepted her job in 1967. The band split in 1974 after her own singles such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors & Jolene outsold the collaborations. The song by Parton, I Will Never Love You (for Wagoner), reached the No. #1 spot following their broke up. This was the first time a song was able to reach No.
